Bursts of polarised single photons from atom-cavity sources

چکیده

Abstract Photonic qubits play an instrumental role in the development of advanced quantum technologies, including networking, boson sampling and measurement based computing. A promising framework for deterministic production indistinguishable single photons is atomic emitter coupled to a mode high finesse optical cavity. Polarisation control important cornerstone, particularly when polarisation defines state bit. Here, we propose scheme producing bursts polarised by coupling generalised cavity, exploiting particular choice quantisation axis. In connection with two re-preparation methods, simulations predict ten-photon coincidence count rates on order 1 kHz 87 mathvariant="normal">R mathvariant="normal">b atoms trapped art This paves way novel n -photon experiments atom-cavity sources.

Deterministic generation of single photons from one atom trapped in a cavity.

A single cesium atom trapped within the mode of an optical cavity is used to generate single photons on demand. The photon wave packets are emitted as a Gaussian beam with temporal profile and repetition rate controlled by external driving fields. Each generation attempt is inferred to succeed with a probability near unity, whereas the efficiency for creating an unpolarized photon in the total ...

Quantum Logic with Cavity Photons From Single Atoms.

We demonstrate quantum logic using narrow linewidth photons that are produced with an a priori nonprobabilistic scheme from a single ^{87}Rb atom strongly coupled to a high-finesse cavity. We use a controlled-not gate integrated into a photonic chip to entangle these photons, and we observe nonclassical correlations between photon detection events separated by periods exceeding the travel time ...

Cavity-enhanced single photons from a quantum dot

Single-photon sources rarely emit two or more photons in the same pulse, compared to a Poisson-distributed source of the same intensity, and have numerous applications in quantum information science. The quality of such a source is evaluated based on three criteria: high efficiency, small multi-photon probability, and quantum indistinguishability. We have demonstrated a single-photon source bas...

Cavity QED with Single Atoms and Photons

Recent experimental advances in the field of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) have opened new possibilities for control of atom-photon interactions. A laser with “one and the same atom” demonstrates the theory of laser operation pressed to its conceptual limit [1]. The generation of single photons on demand and the realization of cavity QED with well defined atomic numbers N = 0,1,2, ... bo...

Sources of Single and Entangled Photons

The ability to produce single photons and entangled photon pairs in desired quantum states is essential in any system intended to handle quantum information. Single photons serve as qubits in quantum computers, and the most powerful operations in those computers are performed by entangling them. Further, entangled pairs of photons are the carriers for signals in quantum-encrypted communications...
